PAUL WOOLNOUGH is a multi-award winning brand visionary and serial entrepreneur with over 40 years of global executive management and operational experience. He is acknowledged as the creator of multiple award-winning innovative and disruptive brands and companies, that collectively have gone on to achieve $1 Billion+ in value in the media, motorsports, and entertainment verticals.
He has created, launched and operated multiple global brands, some of which were recognized as industry disruptors, and collectively have received over 30 industry awards.
Paul began his international business endeavors whilst still a teenager, and his talents and reputation for executing were quickly recognized by some of the world's leading entertainment brands, and at their requests, Paul relocated permanently to Los Angeles. In the spring of 2003, he become the first ever employee of Penske Media Corporation (www.pmc.com), at the invitation of its Founder and CEO, Jay Penske.
Paul served as PMC's Executive Vice President, Secretary and Board Member from the company's inception and his unique entrepreneurial, operational, negotiation and problem solving skills enabled Paul and Jay to build PMC from the ground up into one of the largest digital media companies in the world. With household brands such as Rolling Stone, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Robb Report, Deadline, SheKnows, WWD, SXSW, Life is Beautiful, Dick Clark Productions, Golden Globes and more, PMC is now the world's leading entertainment digital media business.
In his role as EVP, Paul worked directly with Jay Penske and was responsible for all contract matters, negotiated and oversaw all M&A, created and managed joint ventures and strategic partnerships, and led all international development, opening up offices and companies across multiple continents, all while overseeing PMC's investor relations and corporate compliance.
During this time he also was PMC's principal and served on the Board of Directors for India.com, an Indian joint venture between PMC and ZEE Entertainment Ltd, one of the largest television and media companies in India. Paul worked directly with PMC’s Advisory Board that included such illustrious people as Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple Computers, Dennis Repp, former President of Union Bank Venture Capital and Allstate, and Paul Hazen, the Chairman of KKR and former CEO and Chairman of Wells Fargo Bank.
Throughout this period, Paul also served as Principal and Managing Director of a professional motorsports team owned originally by Jay Penske and Steve Luczo and operating under the Luczo Dragon name. In its inauguarl season, Luczo Dragon placed 5th in the 2007 Indianapolis 500, and went on to field a two car team in IndyCar for the next 7 years, changing its name to Dragon Racing.
In 2014, as PMC's global growth continued, the desire to race on a world stage and expose PMC's brands to a larger audience led to the decision to close the IndyCar program and switch to Formula E, the brand new all-electric open wheel racing championship. Paul led the relocation efforts and over 40 tons of equipment was shipped from Los Angeles to Donington Park, UK where the team was based for 3 years.
With Paul serving as Managing Director and Co-Principal alongside Oriol Servia, Dragon Racing finished second in the first Formula E Teams' Championship, a huge acheivement for a private team racing against established race teams and manufacturers. The team now competes in the all-electric FIA Formula E Championship as DS | Penske, and ready to face the next challenge in motorsports, Paul began assisting new all-electric and alternative energy championships around the world.
Prior to joining PMC, Paul previously created multiple award-winning brands and concepts across the leisure and entertainment sectors, including an international entertainment consulting company that provided brand operational, management, logistical, and consulting services for major entertainment companies, artists and brands.
Paul created an award winning, world's first ever off-the-grid glamping brand, that went on to open 18 stunning locations around the world.
Paul was the visionary behind a disruptive Grammy nominated music brand that received multiple industry awards, Billboard #1 albums and singles, and several #1's around the world, and was responsible for the launching of several well-known artists careers.
